Researchers at the University of St Andrews developed a real time object identification technology. It works by placing an object on a small radar sensor. Device, called RadarCat (Radar Categorisation for Input and Interaction), can learn to recognise different objects and materials, a soda bottle to a robot, and can even identify individual body parts.
Image I used for this blog post is from Terminator (movie released in 1984), when this was sci-fi.
