Oakland Athletics (A’s), a professional baseball team announced that the ball club is now accepting bitcoin for season tickets. The club said through their opening day that a single Bitcoin can afford a set of six Oakland A’s full season suites. Purchasing with Bitcoin, however, is currently at a discount rate in comparison to the regular cost.
The Oakland A’s President Dave Kaval on Sunday, March 14, revealed the ball club is now accepting bitcoin (BTC) for its 2021 season tickets. Kaval’s announcement came after a few basketball clubs from the NBA announced accepting bitcoin. Such clubs include the Dallas Mavericks and the Sacramento Kings.
On Sunday evening of Kaval’s announcement, bitcoin (BTC) was exchanging above the $60k handle against the US Dollar. However,
the bitcoin rate has since then dropped, adding to the excitement to about $57k at the time of publication.
Oakland A’s team will sell a 2021 full season, six-person suite in exchange for a single bitcoin from April 1, 2021. This way, the club provides a way for groups larger than four to enjoy a baseball game while a private suite for up to six people is $594 per game. On the other hand, regular-season prices stand at $64,800 per full season admission.
Despite the exchange rate of bitcoin against the US Dollar, the club said it is accepting Bitcoin, instead of U.S. dollars, Oakland A’s announcement reads;
“To order a full season suite, and coordinate secure cryptocurrency payment, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org,”
They further disclosed;
“We invite our fans to become the first bitcoin suite holders in sports,” A’s President Dave Kaval said in a statement. “We’re excited to be one of a handful of teams to accept cryptocurrency for payment and the first to price tickets in crypto instead of U.S. currency. The price of a season suite may fluctuate depending on when it’s purchased, which adds to the excitement.”
According to the club’s website, with a single bitcoin, players can buy not only suites for up to six guests. The package includes free snacks and a private restroom for each suite.
