You may have noticed that many websites, including my blog, started displaying a message at the bottom of the browser window warning you about cookies.

No cause for alarm really. The technology was in place for years. Google, in compliance with EU laws, has to display this message once to every user (or client – smartphone/tablet etc.). The cookies are mainly used to track your browsing history and adjust ad targeting.

If you do not wish to be tracked – it’s a good idea to:

  1. Disable information collection in your google account (especially if you are using chrome or are logged in Gmail or other Google products).
  2. Use private browsing
  3. Use VPN shielding
  4. Consider using browsers such as Tor

Otherwise no cause for alarm. Enjoy the internet.

Update 08-Mar-2017: For an overview of VPN resources visit PC Mag’s review.
